Abstract
An obturator hernia is a very rare condition that occurs in debilitated elderly women. Due to its nonspecific symptoms, diagnoissis is delayed. The correct diagnosis and treatment is important because delayed treatment can lead to a higher mortality rate. The strangulation of the obturator hernia is accompanied by rapidly developing symptoms of intestinal obstruction. We present a 79-year old patient, diagnosed with an obturator hernia which was confirmed by a computed tomography scan of the abdomen and pelvis. An operation was done three days following the initial diagnosis. After treatment, the patient was discharged with an uneventful course. We report a case with a brief review of the literature.
